Cardiff University Medical Interviews

Medicine interviews for Cardiff University usually start in January.

To shortlist candidates for interview, Cardiff scores applications. Points are awarded for nine GCSE subjects, which must include Biology, Chemistry, English Language and Maths. For grade 8, 9 or A*, you score 3 points; for grade 7 or A, you score 2 points; for grade 6 or B, you score 1 point.

The cut-off score for interview varies each year, as it depends on the competition. The UCAT score may also be used as part of the interview shortlisting or offer selection process.

Invitations to interview are sent via email, normally in early December, with a link to Cardiff University’s online booking system.

Cardiff University typically interviews around 1,200 applicants and makes offers to around 700 interviewees.

How Is Cardiff Interviewing For 2024 Entry Medicine?

Cardiff University uses the MMI (Multiple Mini Interviews) format for Medicine interviews. Cardiff have stated that they are currently reviewing the interview process and therefore it is likely that they will be doing verbal interviews only and may include 6 stations.

Last year, MMIs for 2023 entry were held online. This will be the same for 2024 entry.

International applicants should also be prepared to attend an interview.

Tips For Answering Cardiff University Interview Questions

In any MMI interview, you need to stay focused on the station at hand. Forget about how you performed at each station when you move on to the next one.

For your MMI at Cardiff University, it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with medical ethics and keep up-to-date with NHS hot topics so that you’re able to discuss issues which are important to the medical profession.

Cardiff University teaches Medicine through case-based learning (CBL), a type of PBL which involves independent study. Before your interview, make sure you know about CBL and why it appeals to you. Doing this research beforehand will already show that you are a self-motivated and independent learner, and will really help during the interview process.

Also do some reading about Cardiff’s course structure and features, such as the opportunity for clinical placements throughout Wales. As the university and its clinical placements are based in Wales, it’s wise to have some knowledge of the Welsh NHS.
