Once you’ve applied to Dental Schools through UCAS, those who are interested in you as a candidate will send you an interview offer. This interview is your opportunity to showcase your personal attributes and skills that are relevant to becoming a Dentist, and also to demonstrate your enthusiasm for studying Dentistry at the university in question.
When Are Dentistry Interview Offers Sent?
The interview season for Dentistry can start as early as November and runs to March.
When Will I Know The Outcome?
Some Dental Schools will let you know if you’ve been successful within a couple of weeks of your interview, while others will wait until late March when they have interviewed all candidates.
There are two main types of interview for Dentistry:
The key difference is that MMIs require you to work your way through a series of short stations, with a variety of questions and tasks to complete. In a traditional/panel interview, you will have a longer conversation with a panel of interviewers.
In recent years, many Dental Schools have been conducting online interviews due to Covid-19 restrictions. You’ll find more information about what each Dental School is planning for their interviews this year on the university’s website and/or in your invitation to interview.
We’ve reviewed each Dental School to bring you the latest information about their interview process. Where these details are available online, we’ve included how Schools are interviewing for 2023 entry, when interviews are likely to be held, and criteria that the School will be evaluating.

Aberdeen University
The interview format is usually an MMI, with 7 stations lasting around 90 mins altogether.

Birmingham University
The interview format is usually an MMI with 5-10 stations, taking place in February half-term week.

Bristol University
Candidates will typically have a traditional/panel interview between December and February, lasting around 20 minutes. Interviews will be held online via Zoom this year.
Bristol University has previously asked candidates to prepare certain tasks in advance, e.g. a matchbox task and a ‘tell me how’ task.
Cardiff University
The interview format is usually an MMI consisting of 10 stations.

Dundee University
Candidates will typically have a traditional/panel interview, lasting around 40 minutes. These will be held online via Blackboard Collaborate, between December and January.

The interview format is usually an MMI with 7 stations, lasting around 45 mins altogether and taking place in February.
