The UCAT/UCAT ANZ is an admissions test required by a large number of Medical Schools in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Although the UCAT ANZ refers specifically to the test taken by applicants in Australia and New Zealand, it is worth noting that UCAT ANZ is the same test as the regular UK-wide UCAT. It consists of five sections: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning and Situational Judgement.
Getting into Medical School is very competitive, and achieving a good UCAT score requires a period of intensive preparation. For this reason, many candidates sign up for UCAT courses.
UCAT courses provide students with theory, strategies and tips to master each section of the test and score highly. Since the UCAT ANZ is the same as the UCAT, it isn’t necessary to find an Australian provider for UCAT courses if you are Australia-based. We’ve rounded up some of the options below.
The Medic Portal offers UCAT courses taught by expert tutors. If you’re based outside the UK, e.g. in Australia, you can register to attend a live online course. There are courses running 10am-5pm EST time especially for students in Australia and New Zealand. Currently, the next one is planned for June 24th, 2023.
If you would like to complete an e-Learning course in your own time, rather than attending a one-day live course, you also have this option. With the online UCAT course, you can work through 50+ individual lessons at your own pace. By subscribing to the online course, you also get access to the UCAT Question Bank.
There are also UCAT packages available where you can combine live teaching with e-Learning to get the best of both worlds.
Medify doesn’t offer any live courses for the UCAT. However, they do have a popular Question Bank which comes with a range of video and text tutorials, offering tips for every subtest.
If you’re based in Australia or New Zealand, you can choose between Cram, Study and Prepare options – depending on how long you want to subscribe for.
Medic Mind runs live online UCAT workshops. However, their website currently just lists past course dates in 2022, so it’s unclear if there are any workshops for Australia-based students planned for 2023.
They also offer a self-paced online UCAT course which includes access to video tutorials and a Question Bank.
Fraser’s offers a range of different UCAT courses which vary in price. They say their most affordable option is the Strategy Weekend, a classroom workshop which provides a three-day introduction to UCAT fundamentals. It also comes with a Question Bank.
They also offer Blueprint, Concentrated and Comprehensive courses which have more add-ons (e.g. weekly skill workshops) and are therefore more expensive.
iCanMed has run face-to-face UCAT workshops in Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
They also offer an online specialist crash course for the UCAT. It includes video tutorials, a Question Bank and progress webinars where students can troubleshoot their weaknesses.
