CUHK Medicine: What are the entry requirements?

Different courses at CUHK will have different entry requirements, so it’s best to check these on the school’s website before applying. However, they state that they have the following requirements for core HKDSE subjects:

  • English – Level 4
  • Chinese – Level 3
  • Liberal Studies – Level 3
  • Mathematics Compulsory Part – Level 3

In elective subjects, the university requires Biology or Chemistry at Level 3, accompanied by another subject at the same level – and they recommend that students take both. Unlike at HKU, third elective subjects are highly encouraged. In total, CUHK require a total score of 41 in all HKDSE subjects. CUHK’s programmes are highly competitive – they state on their website that they accept students who rank in the top 1% of HKDSE results.

CUHK Medicine: How do I apply?

Think the courses at CUHK are for you? Then it’s time to begin your application! As with most university applications in Hong Kong, this process is completed using JUPAS by following the steps below:

  1. Create a personal online application – create your online account.
  2. Complete the online application – this form should include your personal profile and confirmed programme choices at CUHK – make sure you check the entry requirements of all schools before applying!
  3. Payment of your application fee – at this stage, you will need to pay your non-refundable HK$420 fee. Your application for CUHK Medicine will not be sent until you have paid this – the JUPAS deadline is usually around December, so make sure you have completed your application before then.

Good luck!

CUHK Medicine: How much will it cost?

Tuition fees at CUHK are HK$42,100 for local students, and they estimates that student accommodation costs around $12,000.

As with HKU, CUHK is also a UGC-funded university, so a range of scholarships and government funding is available to study there. Grants and loans from the Tertiary Student Finance Scheme are available to full-time local students from deprived economic backgrounds. The Non-Means-Tested Loan Scheme for Full-time Tertiary Students also provides loans for full-time local students up to the amount of the university’s tuition fees.
