Are you planning to sit the UCAT this year?
There are some fundamental changes being made to key dates and testing that you need to be aware of whilst you continue your preparation.
Here are three big changes being made to UCAT 2020 that aspiring medics should note.
Reduced Testing Window
As a result of COVID-19, UCAT key dates have been pushed back.
This means that rather than in May, registration and booking aims to open from July 1st 2020.
The good news is that you will have a slightly longer preparation period!
Unfortunately, this does mean that the testing window is slightly shorter.
Usually, candidates would have July until October to sit UCAT. This year it will be between August 3rd and October 1st.
It is worth noting that the closer you sit the test towards October, the less time you have to consider your results and apply tactically – the UCAS deadline is October 15th.
It is advisable to sit UCAT at the earliest possible convenience.
Sit UCAT at Home
This year candidates will have the opportunity to sit the test either at home (known as UCAT Online) or in the standard way which is at a test centre.
You may find UCAT Online is preferable because you work better in a more familiar and comfortable environment, with the equipment you are accustomed to using regularly.
Or you may prefer the formality of a test centre, as you find this helps you feel more focused.
Please note that whichever you choose, the UCAT material will remain exactly the same. Neither is more advantageous than the other.
To sit UCAT Online, you will need a Windows or MAC personal computer/laptop, stable internet connection, microphone and webcam.
You may be wondering: why do I need a microphone and webcam too?
Whilst you sit UCAT Online, you will be monitored by a Pearson Vue Proctor via webcam and microphone.
Similar to in house invigilators, a proctor will watch and detect any behaviour that could violate exam rules.

Online Notepad
Unlike previous years, if you take the UCAT this year you will be given access to a whiteboard and pen as well as a scratchpad.
The scratchpad is similar to a notepad, meaning you have opportunity to do rough working out for any questions.
If you haven’t had practice using a scratchpad before, keep your eyes peeled for UCAT adding the feature to practice materials in the next couple of weeks.
