St Matthew’s University

Located on Grand Cayman in the Caribbean, St Matthew’s University offers students an alternative to medical schools in the US and Canada. When you enrol you will receive the same high-quality education as you would in North America but for a more affordable price. Additionally, we offer a personalized learning environment with small classes to ensure that you get all the attention you need from our faculty members.

Our NAVLE and USMLE Step 1 results are a testament to St Matthew’s University’s excellent educational programs. In 2017, 92% of our veterinary students passed the NAVLE on their first attempt. Additionally between 2015 and 2019 , 95% of SMU medical students passed the USMLE Step 1 exam on their first attempt. As a result, our students have gone on to work at some of the most outstanding medical facilities in North America and achieve great things in their careers.

Medicine Course

Your first five semesters will be spent on Grand Cayman where you will cover basic and clinical science to develop your understanding of the human body in states of health and disease. You’ll not only cover the biological and chemical aspects of the human body but you’ll also think about patient-doctor relations as well as ethical issues in the medical profession.

During your third year back in the U.S., you will cover five specialties: internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology as well as psychiatry. This will help you decide which direction you would like your medical career to go in. In your fourth year, semesters 6 to 10, you will expand your clinical knowledge by choosing five clinical electives in areas of interest.
