A new online learning community for aspiring doctors has been launched by The Medic Portal in collaboration with the Royal Society of Medicine. Aiming to revolutionise the way students tackle applications to medical school, the online community offers unique and innovative learning tools including online exam simulation, a video interview platform and a gamified personal portfolio that allows students to keep track of their learning activities. A key aim is to widen access into medicine for students from a range of different backgrounds.
A free online guide provides over 100 pages of free information and advice covering all stages of the medical school application process. The Royal Society of Medicine is offering funding to students from disadvantaged backgrounds for the subscription-based online question banks for the UKCAT and BMAT aptitude tests and other paid-for resources available through www.themedicportal.com, and will also be offering bursaries to students in a number of state schools to attend courses and events organised by The Medic Portal.
The Medic Portal team is led by practising doctors who have already helped thousands of students get into medical school by offering a programme of courses designed to help them through the demanding application process. Dr Ricardo Tavares, Co-Founder, The Medic Portal, said: “Our new online community, which launched in July, offers a unique and trustworthy one-stop-shop for every step of the medical school application process. All students have access to our free online resources and advice, and we have been delighted to see the hugely positive reaction from students, parents and schools globally, with over 3,000 individual online accounts created in our first 12 weeks.
