Tips For Answering Sheffield Interview Questions

Follow these tips to do well in your Sheffield Medical School interview:

  • Sheffield University values volunteer work and care experience just as much as shadowing. Be sure to include a mix of both in your answers.
  • Be aware of some interesting facts about Sheffield as a city, as well as having knowledge of the course.
  • Read Good Medical Practice and be aware of the key themes in it.
  • Sheffield wants well-rounded students on the course. Be prepared to talk about yourself and the things you enjoy outside of your studies.
  • While Sheffield provides you with the questions prior to interview, it is important that you do not learn answers and recite them exactly. The interviewers are looking out for this. It’s better to list bullet points of things you want to mention for each question and formulate a unique answer in the interview, so that the conversation flows more easily.
  • Sheffield uses an integrated approach to learning, with early clinical exposure and full cadaveric dissection. You may need to explain why this course structure suits your style of learning.

How Are Interviews At Sheffield Assessed?

The interview questions are based on eight key themes listed here.

The interviewer will give you a score out of 5 for your answer, where 5= excellent, 4 = good, 3 = satisfactory, 2 = borderline, 1 = unsatisfactory.

In addition, your SJT score from the UCAT will be converted to a score out of 5 to emulate a ninth station, where 5 = first quartile, 4 = second quartile, 3 = third quartile, 2 = fourth quartile.

The maximum score is 45/45. If a candidate gets a score less than 3 on any station, they will not be considered further.
